Burnt Sugar Pomade Review

From Oyinhandmade.com:

Does your hair love oils? Our “Burnt Sugar” Pomade is a nourishing all-vegetable pomade and styling product named for the uniquely sweet, translucent, and fragrant quality of warm, homemade caramel.

Similar in texture to an old school ‘hair grease,’ This blend of oils, butters, and veggie waxes acts as a humectant and protectant for hair, increasing shine to a high glossy sheen and locking in moisture. It’s packed with essential fatty acids to nourish scalp, and actually sinks into your hair and skin for a long lasting, non-greasy feeling. It’s great for braids, imparts shine and moisture to loose hair, brushes nicely into the hairline for a glossy finish, and adds luster to locks!

Contains virgin coconut cream, mango oil, and hempseed oil in a base of nourishing castor oil. Fragranced with a subtly sweet vanilla-sugar scent that is appropriate for both men and women. Voted “Best of the Best” in Pomade category at naturallycurly.com!

Available in 4oz and 8oz sizes.

My Review:

First lets start off with why oh why did I buy this product in the first place. Was my hair in dyer need of this product? Was it suffering without it? No no no my dear. I bought this product after reading HUNDREDS of positive reviews. So, what exactly do I use it to do?

Let me just say that although this product is a sealer and shiner, I had no need for it at all. For shine I had coconut oil. For sealing I had a 32 FL oz bottle of castor oil. What drew me to this product though was the rave of its smell; and shall I say it does smell amazing. I have used it several times on my loose hair and my mothers’ locs and it barely has a dent. I was very skeptical at first when I discovered how small it was(4 oz!? wtft), but in the end it was still worth it. The pomade does exactly what it says it will do. It smells great, adds shine, and seals in the moisture. I only use this product every once in a while because the smell can linger for a very long time.  Anyways let me tell you what it exactly smells like. The smell reminds me of baked goods. Like sugar cookies, coffee cake, etc. It is also very thick; but when you rub it between your hands it melts into an oil. The texture also feels like a thick butter with grains of  sugar in it. As for the packaging, it’s pretty simple and perfect for the product contained in it because of it warm color. I find myself, whenever I’m bored, pulling the pomade out of my stash and smelling the foocheezy out of it. I will warn you though, not to smell it too much. From a previous experience of mine, the smell got so overpowering and artificial, that I found myself becoming nauseous. It took several days for me to start enjoying the smell like I use to. Just don’t put it too close to your nose.

Pros: Smells great, thick/creamy texture, warm color, does exactly what it’s supposed to(for what I want it for), lasts a very long time, very unique.

Cons: Smell could be overpowering at times, doesn’t slick down my edges(at all), $6.00 shipping is a little too pricey.

Overall this is a really great product by Oyin and I plan on being a return customer of theirs. They have this product in three different sizes(including sample sizes). Prices vary from $3.50 to $16.00. They also just recently changed their packaging to this:burnt sugar hair pomade
